Le Sphinx

Another reason for our visit to Figeac was to see nephew Rémi at le Sphinx, the bar he has been managing since they were allowed to reopen in early summer.

Why le Sphinx? Let's go back to my previous post explaining that one of Figeac's sons (Jean-François Champollion) was an important Egyptologist. I'm sure Loulou, Sylvie & Tine are discussing it above!

Not much reference to Egypt here, but plenty to eat & drink

In the afternoon and evening customers can spread out under 'la halle', the under-cover marketplace

Rémi in action

Another action shot of Rémi, here serving his mates

An early evening view of the square. The top floors of these buildings were once used to dry tobacco leaves grown locally.

Competition with yet another Egyptian reference

Birthday boy with his old man slippers present

Quite a few bottles of white were consumed this lunchtime...

...and the market was cleared in the meantime!

Dominique & Sylvie (with your faithful blogger and Rémi in the shot too)

I'm trying out a video again. The white wine obviously went to Sylvie & Tine's dancing feet!

Walk around Figeac

I know I've said it before but Figeac is a beautiful town

Rooftops seen from Loulou & Sylvie's house

Reflections in the river Célé

L'Église Notre-Dame du Puy...

...and its impressive views over the ancient town

Keep looking up, as they say

La Place des Écritures...

...a wonderful hidden area dedicated to Jean-François Champollion...

...the local boy who went on to break the code of the Rosetta Stone.

Finally the outstanding Hôtel de la Monnaie, now the local tourist office

Figeac: chez Loulou & Sylvie

It's not every day your brother-in-law is 60 years old so a few days after our return from Belle Île off we were again, this time aiming for le department du Lot, over five hours away.

We don't usually visit in the summer and it was a real treat to sample their new look garden and pool...

...and enjoy excellent weather.

The table all set for tonight's meal...

...with old friends, Dominique & Pierre.

Tine's birthday chocolate cake went down well!

Next day niece Caroline and partner Jo came. Here's Jo, recovering from a leg operation and awaiting his apéritif with Sylvie & Tine

The man of the moment returns from some shopping to try out his new bbq grill, here with Tine & Caro.

Looks like Tine's been busy in the kitchen again (not that anyone's complaining)

Another outdoor meal with a table for four...

...under the vines. Perfect!

Belle Île (4)

Next day JP drove us down to Le Palais to catch the late morning ferry back to the mainland

Old & new roads signs

The ferry was an hour late arriving...

...so we had time for a coffee at the café opposite...

...and were soon safely installed onboard.

Part of le Fort de Ramonette

A good view of the Vauban fort...

...as we leave the harbour.

See you again before too long, Belle Île

Belle Île (3)

Our last full day on Belle Île and we were blessed with lovely weather.

Tine's wild flower bouquet from the garden

We grabbed a lift to Le Palais with JP&C and Tine & I enjoyed another walk along the coast...

...and back through the Vauban fort...

...to the town itself, the fort dominating the harbour.

The cousins dropped us off in Sauzon on our way back home...

...and we enjoyed walking around before climbing back to the house.
