It's been a long time but we finally kept our promise of a return visit to Anglet staying with Nicole & Daniel. As usual we were made to feel totally at home and we enjoyed lots of excursions, not once venturing into Biarritz itself!
The first day we drove down to Hendaye, the most southerly Atlantic town in France, and took the small ferry boat to Fontarrabie in Spain, just 8 minutes away!
Here's the ferry, working throughout the year but not as busy as in full summer! |
Palm trees and snow-capped mountains behind - surreal! |
Here's our destination: Fontarrabie, just the estuary separating it from France. |
In the old town the houses were amazing! |
We loved the brickwork and shutters here |
Inside the Parador, a very welcome break for a drink |
Our new friend, his busby needing a trim I feel! |
La Rhune, the local mountain! |
We managed to catch the last ferry back, thankfully! |

Next time we try Fontarrabie at tapas time, when hundreds of people are drinking and eating and speaking loudly on the little place.
