All good things come to an end but we made the most of our journey back to La Tranche by doing a bit of sightseeing on the way.
We stopped for a picnic lunch at La Rochebeaucourt-et-Argentine... |
...with its grey skies and solid church. We found nowhere for a coffee though! |
We didn't get to see the château but it could be worth a visit next time https://abandoned-france.com/2017/12/23/chateau-de-la-rochebeaucourt/
Just over the border into Charente we came across the magnificent hill-top Château Villebois-Lavalette, and couldn't resist doing a detour to get a closer look |
Unluckily for us visits in winter months are just in the morning. Another one to go on the list. |
There's a great video here on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjTmpHnJWks |
Our final non-planned stop was at Saint-Même-Let-Carrières... |
...quarries just behind and parallel to the main road from Angoulême to Cognac. |
Displayed old photos tell some of the story |
