Beach repairs

You'll remember Storm Xynthia from 2010 when the Vendée coast was badly affected, the sea breaking through the dune and releasing water from 'le plan d'eau' (the artificial lake dedicated to sailing lessons). The town workers did a great and speedy job repairing the breach and it was quickly forgotten.

Since September strong tides have been eating away at the same spot, and your faithful blogger has been on hand to watch developments.

First of all I'll take you back to the end of February 2010...

...with water flowing out of 'le plan d'eau'.

Fast forward to 28th September 2020...

...4th October...

...& 8th October. The dune walk is still accessible but with a detour.

18th November and a high-vis worker makes an appearance

A week later and markers have appeared...

...and a big trench dug to empty the lake left by the high tide.

Next day the diggers move in...

...and another day later big rocks are being eased into place.

It's now weekend so no workers but a good photo opportunity for Tine

Yet another channel...

...to try to empty the tidal lake.

Four days ago and sea is already attempting to reclaim the dune...

...and creating its own channel.
