Santandria

Feeling the need for a bit of beach time we headed slightly south of Ciutadella to Santandria, an idyllic little cove set in the low cliffs.

On arrival we wondered why everyone was paddling rather warily. Answer: the sea was awash with small jellyfish...
...so after a brief attempt at a dip the best option was books under the palm trees!
Tine & I decided to explore along the cliffs...
...finding more tempting little coves...
...and an impressive fort, La Torre des Castellar.

You could almost wave to Majorca from there!

Ciutadella Cathedral

The Cathedral at Ciutadella is situated in the old town where several narrow streets open out into a square.

You can just about frame the cathedral in a photo!
Inside seemed much bigger, with beautiful stained-glass windows

Behind the cathedral we discovered peaceful gardens by the Episcopal Palace

Very peaceful for this cat...
...and the two old men!

Walking round the old town there were other magnificent doorways to be seen.

Ciutadella

Our second day was spent mainly relaxing by the pool, but next day our itchy feet took us to Ciutadella. Luckily Mo's expert driving in the hire car got us to the west of the island with ease. It has to be said the roads were good and not at all congested.

Once the capital of Menorca, Ciutadella has a colonial feel about the buildings

Spotted: two old men having a rest in the shade
There was a lovely view over  the natural harbour...

...and fascinating walks along the narrow streets...

...this one blocked for a street party!
Isn't it time you were dressed, m'dear?
Sadly the market was closed (it was Sunday afternoon, after all).
Down another narrow street for a better view of the harbour

4 go to Menorca

Yes, a long-awaited holiday with great friends Helen & Mo (and I've decided I'm going to spell it MEnorca, just like the Spanish).

Looks like Mo's having an early kip on the flight out. Tine & Helen raring to go, of course!
Coffee needed for some, rosé for others: first stop Sant Climent, a short ride from the airport.
Look at our AirBnb: wonderful!

Didn't take long for Tine to seek the sun (hope the shower doesn't switch on)!

First night's meal at Ca'n Bernat, a wonderful restaurant a BIT of a walk away, but don't we look happy?

And what a sunset to finish our first day on this most beautiful island!

The Cow & Calf Rocks

Our friends Edith & John came to stay at the campsite above ours and one day we combined grub for a picnic at the Cow & Calf, not too far away.

It's always impressive when you arrive at the site...
...but even more so when you climb to the top.
It's nearly 50 years since three of us met. Tine was still a child of course!
A couple of shots looking through the quarry towards the Wharfe Valley

Can you make out some climbers...
...and a face in the rock?

In the Visit Bradford website: According to local legend, the Calf was split from the Cow when the giant Rombald was fleeing an enemy, and stamped on the rock as he leapt across the valley. The enemy, it is rumoured, was his angry wife. She dropped the stones held in her skirt to form the local rock formation The Skirtful of Stones.

Later we stopped for a picnic near to the bridge in Ilkley, once the only crossing point in the town
A man stopped to ask about my haircut. I had no idea what he was talking about!

Crook Farm & Saltaire Festival

Back in our Yorkshire château and look at that welcoming sky...
...and the resident peacocks were pleased to see us too...

...even parading on the roof!
Down in Saltaire we enjoyed a very busy Saltaire Festival...
...again blessed with good weather right into the evening.
Betty certainly enjoyed herself
Another day, a cheeky pint in our local, the Old Glen, Tine having a coffee
Up at the caravan, new sheets for the bunk-beds. The grandchildren will love them!
