San Cristóbal de La Laguna

It was already our last full day and we decided to visit the north-east area of the island, San Cristóbal de La Laguna lying just to the west of Santa Cruz.

First stop, the Real Santuario del Cristo de La Laguna...
...known for its crucifixion carving in wood, dating from the 16th century.
We next visited the small market, this stall with a big range of potatoes
.We loved wandering the grid-like streets...
...many houses with succulent plants growing on their roofs

We also visited several interior courtyards, a lovely cool sanctuary in the heat

Palm tree competing with the cathedral tower

Back to wandering, enjoying the vibrant colours all around

Yes, we enjoyed La Laguna, a far cry from the normal Tenerife tourist spots.

We will have to visit again. Our experience was not so good.we came up from sSanta Cruz where it was boiling hot and we were freezing in La Laguna, We ony had an hour or so there then looked for the bus station. We found a map in the old town but when we eventually found it, it was just a car park! A very nice lady guided us to the new one, half a mile away and very drafty!
