Each September heritage weekend (journées du patrimoine) has old properties opening their doors to the public. This year we decided to visit le Château de la Brunière in Givres, just a short drive away from La Tranche.
Although we couldn't visit the interior the present owner happily walked a group of us around the château |
There's usually water in the moat but not this year! |
The present château was rebuilt in the 16th century |
A sun-dial hidden in one of the walls |
Only the main section and one of the side wings remain although it was originally a U-shape building. |
There's a very curious chimney-pot... |
...that looked like it could very easily tumble! |
The other side of the wing recently restored... |
We stepped inside the round tower which had once been used as a barn... |
...its intricate ceiling wooden frame now a home for owls. |
