Ménez-Hom & le Pont de Térénez

Ménez-Hom is the highest spot on the Presqu'île de Crozon and the views are wonderful as it lies just 6 km from the coast. Unluckily for us the sun hadn't burned off all the mist yet.

🎵I'm the Queen of the Castle🎵
A hazy view of le Pont de Térénez...
...and now with a zoom!
Of course we had to get a closer look
View from remains of the old bridge

515 m walk across...

...and 515 m back again!

There are fantastic photos to be seen here http://www.antreizh.fr/crbst_107.html

La Chapelle de Sainte-Anne la Palud

A packed day with lots of places to visit, suggested by our hostess Josy. First stop was an imposing church in the middle of nowhere.

This church was built in 1858, replacing earlier versions swallowed up by the sea

Sadly we couldn't visit the interior...
...but there are dedications to many saints around the church...

...and great gargoyles!

A statue of Saint Anne is carried over the sand dunes during the annual 'pardon' at the end of August, bringing many pilgrims to the site.

A pardon is a Breton tradition when blessings are asked of the patron saint, many people dressing in traditional Breton costume.

Locronan

Matt & Cynthia's Christmas 2017 present was a couple of nights away. However Tine's operation last April and her slow recovery meant we only just made the most of their gift. And so it was back to Brittany to continue our explorations there.

Our Chambre d'Hôte (B&B) was in the hills just outside Douarnenez, our room facing the courtyard
Apparently it was a 10 minute walk down to the beach, but 30 minutes back. I'm afraid we'll have to check next time.
Each morning our host suggested visits. Her first recommendation was Locronan...
We'd forgotten our previous visit in 2012 (that's called getting old)...

...but it well worth visting again. Can you spot the dog's head sculpture in this photo?

Around the back of the church a small but very crowded graveyard with a typical Breton cross...
...and a good silhouette of the church.

Cows, reeds and a stork

The post title says it all!

We did part of the former ragondin walk (former as it would seem the ragondins have been eradicated around here).

We looked to our left and a herd of cattle started running towards us. Perhaps they thought we were bringing fodder.
Luckily the waterway stopped their running, and no-one got hurt.
Being former marshlands we see lots of reeds in the area

This was our aim, a stork's nest
Mmmm, photographing the photographer
There she is, looking after her offspring...

...and later, in full flight, trying to warn us off probably.

Another mixed bag

I often have a few photos that don't really fit a theme, hence today's selection.

Essex friends Dick & Dave often come to their holiday homes in La Tranche, and they FORCE me to have an early evening pint or two (here at the Starfish)
There was a big family party for Cécile & Arnaud's 20th wedding anniversary. Our generation wasn't invited but we still had fun. At the Slice Café with Rémy, Tine, Jean, Monique, your humble blogger & nephew Rémi. You can also spot Cynthia in the background.
A couple from my daily walk: the boating lake...
...and the chapel where outdoor services are held in full summer.
Tine showing off her sewing skills having re-covered all the cushions for the outdoor seats. What a woman!
Sacha & Papy had a day together whilst his parents were working and Tine had a concert with her choral group. Obviously a haute cuisine lunch was prepared and devoured (fish fingers & baked beans)!
Then to the park in the forest...
...a first time for Sacha.
What is it with boys and sticks??
