The Dordogne & Vézère valleys

Rather than take the motorway from AAA's to Figeac we chose to follow the Dordogne and Vézère valleys and were rewarded with stunning views.
.
The first three photos were taken at Les Eyzies-de-Tayac where troglodyte residences are perched on the cliff sides and where many archaeological finds have been found, including Cro-Magnon man. There is a very interesting site at http://leseyzies.info/ if you feel inclined to delve deeper (!)
.
Further up the valley we came across Beynac with a most impressive château which dates from the 12th century looking out over the Dordogne valley used in later centuries to fight off the English in the 100 Years War.
.
As you might now we're quite interested in old rocks so I was pleased finally to make the acquaintance of Le Dolmen de la Pierre Martine, on the last stretch of road to Figeac. As you can imagine somebody is quite proud of this name!

Hya All, It was great to see Les Eyzies and the chateau at Baynec again. Sandy took us to see both these places when we stayed with her at Lacropte. There are some gorgeous views of the Dordogne river from the chateau. We have many lovely photos and memories. Love A&B xxx
