Castello d'Empuries

One day we explored Castello d'Empuries, a short distance to the south of Portbou

The old town had a moat and high walls to protect it
Over this bridge...
...with its quirky tower...

...lies a fabulous little restaurant, Nicole & Tine obviously enjoying their apéritif.
Later we visited the Basilica de Santa Maria

Narrow streets flanked by imposing buildings are a testament to how important Castello d'Empuries once was

A public building proud to be Catalan...
...and evidence of pilgrims passing through.
Daniel & Nicole took us to see the Pont Vell, a bridge dating from the 14th Century...

...but floods and wars have left little of the original Medieval bridge.

On our way back, what better way to cool off than a dip in the sea at Playa de Garbet

Obviously a shadow showing my long flowing locks!
