One day we explored Castello d'Empuries, a short distance to the south of Portbou
The old town had a moat and high walls to protect it |
Over this bridge... |
...with its quirky tower... |
...lies a fabulous little restaurant, Nicole & Tine obviously enjoying their apéritif. |
Later we visited the Basilica de Santa Maria |
Narrow streets flanked by imposing buildings are a testament to how important Castello d'Empuries once was |
A public building proud to be Catalan... |
...and evidence of pilgrims passing through. |
Daniel & Nicole took us to see the Pont Vell, a bridge dating from the 14th Century... |
...but floods and wars have left little of the original Medieval bridge. |
On our way back, what better way to cool off than a dip in the sea at Playa de Garbet |
Obviously a shadow showing my long flowing locks! |
