Gateau basque

For those who haven’t tried ‘gateau basque’ you’re missing a treat! It’s a biscuit-like cake, similar to shortbread and usually with a black cherry filling.

Daniel took us to an artisan bakery in Arbonne…

…where the workings of the flour mill are still on show…



…including the stream that worked the mechanism.

Meanwhile Tine had the hard work of choosing the cakes…

…from this wonderful selection.

L'endroit s'appelle "le moulin de Bassilour", du nom de l'ancien domaine dont il faisait partie.
