Return sail to Sorrento

I reckon we were ready for a good sit-down after walking up & down the hills & steps of Amalfi.

Just to prove we were in Italy!

Tine's photo of the other adventurers, Helen, Mo & your faithful blogger.

Last views of Amalfi from the water

Enjoying other settlements along the coast

I can't remember the name of these islands but it was wonderful to see them changing shades and shape as we sailed past.

Of course I know the name of this mountain! No apologies for yet another photo of Vesuvius.

Amalfi

Second and last stop on our boat trip along the coast was Amalfi

The Sant'Andrea Cathedral was magnificent (once you'd climbed the steps)!

An interior garden..

...surrounded by calm cloisters...

...including one section where the floor was made of glass (Tine being intrepid of course).

Around the cloisters were several chapels...

...and steps down to a very ornate crypt.

The main cathedral was equally opulent

Back outside and a walk down to the waterfront

Finsally a couple of views as we departed the town.

Positano

One day we enjoyed a boat trip along the coast.

Here's the view of the beach at Positano on arrival (not exactly golden sands like in La Tranche)...

...and Tine & Helen walking the plank...

...and Mo!

We were greeted by this beautiful display of petunias

The Church of Santa Maria Assunta...

...with its clock tower away from the main building.

There was a service taking place so we only approached the main door.

A view up into the mountains shrouded by clouds

We walked up a narrow street as far as the Church of Santa Maria del Rosaria.

A rare occasion when the crowds thinned out

Time for a spot of lunch...

...before catching the boat to continue our journey.

Meta

In the afternoon we took the local bus to Meta, just along the coast from our Airbnb.

No doubts about the weather: it was HOT...

...and just look at the colour of the sea.

Sadly the beaches are black with volcanic sand...

...and most are privately owned by hotels.

Big preparations were in swing for the summer season

New steps...

...and old.

Tine & I made our way back to the station, leaving Helen & Mo to the bit of beach they found

Of course a cooling beer was in order...

...with a view over the bay.

Now joined by Helen & Mo again and it looks like our train is arriving. Back to base!

Wandering around Sant'Agnello

We decided to stay locally next morning when we woke up to a solid blue sky.

The Church of Saint Prisco and Saint Agnello, with its steps made of marble from Vesuvius.

Inside was very ornate...

...with beautiful features.

Don't forget to look up. Imagine creating this ceiling!

The view from the top of the steps. Our favourite bar is hidden from view on the left-hand side.

From the main road to Sorrento there are many narrow streets branching off...

...often with room for just one vehicle at a time...

...even a skinny mini-van like this one!

An impressive doorway...

...and yet another church hidden away.

Orange & lemon trees everywhere

Old Vesuvius, this time with clouds

Back to the cliffs overlooking the coast...

...and a selfie of me'n'er.
